Community Garden Installation

Since we are what we eat, we figured fresh fruits and vegetables would be a good idea.

GRYD Foundation has partnered with Flourish Forever to install a community garden in the midst of Nickerson Gardens Housing Development, a place where, like many urban communities, sources for fresh fruits and vegetables do not exist.

Installation began during Summer Night Lights 2018, and the first round of vegetables have been planted. Fruit trees to follow!

Ongoing activities will include tooling soil, maintenance, harvesting, along with beautification of the immediate area surrounding the garden to create an inviting, peaceful space for residents to build community.

The idea is for the garden to bring kids, teenagers, and adults together in positive, healthy activities; to provide nutritious food choices; and to inspire youth and families to learn new recipes and build healthy habits.

We hope to create a space that residents will come to enjoy and that with the sources of fresh fruit and vegetables and ongoing gardening activities, that they can feel good about themselves, their choices, and the community where they live.
