Mission & Focus
The GRYD Foundation mission is to create a safer, healthier, Los Angeles with a focus on communities that are heavily impacted by gang violence and that often lack resources due to economic, racial, and neighborhood boundaries.
As a 501c3 nonprofit community based organization, The GRYD Foundation is proud to be a core implementation partner with the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Public Safety (Gang Reduction & Youth Development) in its efforts to reduce violence and to strengthen individuals, families and entire communities.
What was once a home of gang crime for the world is now home of solutions to the gang problem.
— Mayor Eric Garcetti
The GRYD Foundation works collaboratively with the City toward two objectives: to reduce gang-related violence and to strengthen individuals, families, and communities. Programming includes Summer Night Lights, Youth Squad 360, our signature boxing program, and Fall Friday Nights. Each of our programs works towards the objectives of promoting nonviolence, positive activities, and healthy outcomes for the residents of 32 communities across the City of Los Angeles. GRYD programming focuses on areas that have been heavily impacted by gun violence, that lack resources due to socio-economic disparities, and where many individuals are experiencing the effects of multi-generational poverty and exposure to trauma.
